Every project begins with listening. We take time to understand the site, its constraints and opportunities, and the practical realities of how the garden will be lived in.

Our approach is design-led but grounded in buildability. We consider structure, materials and planting together from the outset, ensuring that ideas translate clearly from concept to construction and into a garden that works long after completion.

Rather than imposing a fixed style, we aim to create gardens that feel appropriate to their context — whether that means responding to historic stone buildings, working within tight urban courtyards, or shaping larger rural landscapes.

Twigs Landscape Design is a garden design and construction practice working across the Charente and South West France.

We specialise in creating thoughtful, well-crafted gardens that respond to their setting — shaped by the land, the architecture and how the space will be used. Our work combines careful design, strong horticultural knowledge and high-quality construction, resulting in gardens that mature beautifully over time.

Design & Construction

Twigs offers a complete service, from initial concept and layout development through to construction, planting and finishing.

Much of our work involves technically challenging sites, including steep slopes, enclosed courtyards and sensitive historic settings. By combining design expertise with hands-on construction experience, we are able to develop practical, robust solutions without compromising the character or atmosphere of the finished space.

Where appropriate, we work with reclaimed materials and traditional building techniques alongside contemporary detailing, allowing new interventions to sit comfortably within their surroundings.

Experience

With over thirty years’ professional experience, our work is informed by a deep understanding of landscape, materials and planting.

Projects have included private gardens, courtyards, swimming pool landscapes and specialist garden features, with work recognised through RHS show garden medals and publication in the national gardening press.

This breadth of experience allows us to approach each commission with confidence, clarity and a strong sense of proportion.

We work closely with our clients throughout the process, offering clear communication and a considered, collaborative approach.

Projects may range from clearly defined briefs to more exploratory conversations, and we are equally comfortable developing ideas from first principles or refining an existing vision. We regularly work with clients based overseas or on second homes, and understand the importance of trust, transparency and careful project management.

Location & areas covered

Based near Angoulême, we primarily work in the Charente and neighbouring Dordogne, while also undertaking garden design projects further afield.

Building work is typically carried out within a half-hour radius of our base in St Séverin, allowing us to maintain close involvement on site and a high level of quality control.
